Product Description
The Linksys Wireless-G PrintServer with Multifunction Printer Support lets you connect a multifunction USB printer directly to your network, eliminating the need to dedicate a PC to print sharing chores. Using a PrintServer frees up your “print share PC” so you don’t have to leave it on all the time. It also removes the printing bottleneck, and sets your PC free to do more useful work. The PrintServer is compatible with most USB multifunction printers, and allows full access to printing, faxing, scanning, and copying functions. Like any print server, users on the network can print anytime. The other functions are treated a little differently – any user can request access to one of the other functions, and get exclusive use of that function until his task is complete.Connect the PrintServer directly to your network by 10/100 Ethernet cable, or wirelessly at up to 54Mbps via Wireless-G. The wireless option lets you put your printer wherever you want to, without having to run cables. Whichever way the PrintServer is attached to your network, both your wireless and wired PCs will have access to it, and the printer it’s connected to. And if you don’t use wireless for general networking in your office, you can still use the Wireless-G connection in ad-hoc mode to print from visiting Wireless-G and Wireless-B PCs.Your wireless data is protected by up to 128-bit WPA-PSK encryption. A user-friendly Setup Wizard makes installation easy, the compact case fits anywhere, and the big print buffer handles even large graphics-intensive print jobs. Let the Linksys Wireless-G PrintServer with Multifunction Printer Support bring efficiency to all your home office tasks.

Although this item works perfectly and the price is very good my antenna was broken when I opened the box. Since I sent this to a friend as a gift in another country returning the item was not an option.

My concern is more that I emailed the seller straight away and 2 days later no response. Note I was NOT asking for a refund – more letting them know that there was an issue and asking them about their quality control.

  2. Ordered this to print from our laptops without having to go through our desktop. Wouldn’t work with Vista or our printer!

Purchased from Tiger Direct for home use on three computers.

Unit would not pick up printer from any computers. Over 9 hours testing.

Then paid a IT to set it up. One who had experience with Linsys.

    IT reported unit was bad.

Tiger Direct does not exchange or refund.

Item was a factory refurb but looked brand new. Opened box and read the directions thru completely to make sure I understood the installation since many had said they had a problem installing it. Then I went thru the directions installing the unit and followed them word for word and it installed and printed first time. I have 2 wireless computers in my house and I am running this thru the wireless router provided by my DSL provider. 1 computer has XP Home the other has XP Pro. I have had the unit a month and it works every time.

This product is excellent value given that it’s refurbished and as some others have said, there’s really no difference between the refurb I got and a brand new item. All necessary cables included, which is the ethernet and USB. The CD setup process is super-easy to follow with terrific step-by-step. Great job by LinkSys to put together a good setup guide.

One caveat, be **VERY** careful to check that your printer model is compatible with this print server. Many aren’t. Pity none of this is mentioned in the item description. Bought this, did the initial setup, then saw my Brother HL-2040 couldn’t be located by my computer. After some checking, I found out my printer wasn’t supported.

This link below takes you to the printer compatibility list. If it’s broken, go to [...] and search for “print server”, then look at their FAQ’s.

    [...]

The forums are great for figuring out workarounds, and other issues, which I referenced to finally make it work with my printer. Required some manipulation and you’d have to be comfortable with entering things like your print server’s IP address. Yup, you heard right, your PRINT-SERVER’s IP address (which you’ll get when setup’s underway, be sure to write it down just in case). Even then, no guarantee that’ll work for every printer.

Too bad… if it was plug-n-play which it could’ve been if my printer had been compatible, I’d have given it 5+1 stars. The work I had to do and the fact that it’s not Mac-compatible took the score down. That it finally worked well for my PC is a major plus.
